ABOUT
My name is Ben Singh.
I am the person behind Ekhō House of Short Stories.
This project is a place for narrative illustrations, images made in response to stories. Each illustration is presented together with a complete short story.
I have always drawn, but I never felt satisfied making images that existed only to look good. What consistently gave me a reason to draw were stories.
As a child, I found a small book of Indian folktales in my parents’ bookcase. Those stories stayed with me not because they were always factual, but because they offered ways of thinking about the world that felt usable.
From that point on, I began collecting folktales from various cultures around the world.
I focus on short stories because I am drawn to their simplicity and to the way a single idea or lesson can be carried through one sitting.
With this website, I hope to help short stories resurface. There are so many great stories that should be retold, like an echo moving through generations.
For each story, I create a single illustration. It is the image that comes to mind while reading, but not an attempt to define the entire world of the story. I leave space intentionally so the reader can build their own inner landscape.
New stories and illustrations will be added slowly over time.
I hope one of these stories stays with you.
