Fruitfull
A merchant learns an important lessons thanks to his fruit.
Once upon a time, in a bustling marketplace.
Where the enticing fragrance of freshly baked bread,
thousand-and-one colours and a choir of voices, breathed life in the day...Lived an old man who sold figs.
Every single day, he would set up his little stall with baskets of ripe, juicy figs.
Hoping to sell them to those who passed by.
Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, nobody seemed interested in buying his figs.
Day after day, the old man would sit with his fruit, watching as people walked by his stall.
He began to feel discouraged, wondering why nobody wanted to buy his figs...
"Perhaps they were too expensive, or perhaps there were better figs to be found in the marketplace.”
One hot summer day, the old man was feeling particularly sad.
No one had stopped to even look at his wares. Let alone BUY his figs.
He began to drown into worry and doubt.
Wondering, If he made a mistake choosing this profession.
Feeling tired and thirsty, the old man took a fig from one of his baskets and bit into it.
The sweet, refreshing juice made him close his eyes in pleasure, savoring it's taste.
As he sat there enjoying his fig, he noticed a group of people approaching his stall.
They were drawn by the sight of the old man sitting contentedly, surrounded by his baskets of figs, enjoying his fruit without a care in the world.
Curious, they stopped to ask the old man why he seemed so happy when nobody was buying his figs.
The old man smiled and offered them each a fig to taste. "These figs are delicious!" Said one of them. "How much for a basket?”
But the old man shook his head and replied, "I'm sorry, my friends, but I cannot sell you my figs.
These figs are for me to enjoy, and enjoy them I shall.”
The customers were confused by the old man's response.
They had never met a merchant who refused to sell his wares before.
But as they watched the old man sitting there, blissfully munching on his figs, they couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for him.
And so, the old man continued to sit by his stall, enjoying his figs in peace, knowing that he had found true happiness.
